Gluster Chief Technology Officer to Present at OpenStack Design Summit and Conference

Innovative cloud storage provider to discuss petascale filesystems and disclose use-cases in public and private cloud environments

Santa Clara, Calif. – April 25, 2011 – Gluster, the leading provider of scale-out, open source storage solutions for public and private clouds, today announced its co-founder and chief technology officer, Anand Babu (AB) Periasamy, will be among the industry experts to present at the 1st OpenStack Design Summit and Conference taking place April 26 – 27 at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara.

Periasamy will present “Petascale Cloud File-System Design and Implementation” on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. During his session, Periasamy will discuss how filesystems are under tremendous architectural strain as the explosion of unstructured data continues unabated and traditional filesystem architectures fail to meet the demanding challenges of both public and private clouds. He will explain the petascale filesystem architecture and how it is designed to easily handle massive amounts of unstructured data, as well as provide high availability and linearly scale performance and capacity in order to efficiently manage unplanned spikes in performance, providing high availability as a standard function of the filesystem.

“Traditional and hybrid filesystems are not meeting demands and even worse, are creating limitations. The petascale filesystem is designed to fluidly handle an immense amount of unstructured data while linearly scaling performance and capacity,” said Periasamy. “My presentation will give attendees some best practices for building such a system in their own environments and will discuss detailed use-cases, specifically for public and private cloud environments.”

Prior to Gluster, Periasamy served as CTO at California Digital Corporation and, in 2004, led the development of the world’s second-fastest supercomputer, “Thunder,” for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Periasamy also serves on the board of “Free Software Foundation – India.”

About Gluster
Gluster provides the fastest path to deploy open source storage solutions that deliver massively scalable storage for public and private clouds. Our open source software runs on commodity computing and storage resources (either public or private clouds), enabling customers to scale performance, capacity, and availability on demand. Over 120 customers have scaled Gluster in building block fashion from a few terabytes to multiple petabytes to meet the most demanding capacity and performance needs at a fraction of the cost of traditional proprietary and monolithic systems. Gluster uses a unified global namespace to virtualize disk and memory resources into a single shared pool that is centrally managed. Our scalable virtual appliances address the needs of public and private clouds, traditional data centers, and shared storage for virtual server environments. Our open source community has downloaded and deployed hundreds of thousands of copies of GlusterFS. Gluster is used by enterprises in a wide range of industries, including digital media delivery, healthcare, Internet, energy and biotech. Gluster is privately-held and headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.  Visit us at
