Intuit, the company behind popular Software-as-a-Service offerings like QuickBooks, Quicken, and TurboTax, needed an agile and reliable storage solution for its TurboTax suite of tax preparation products. Intuit faces a unique set of challenges with this product, because customer demand is highly seasonal. In the months and weeks leading up to April 15, they need to provide their customers with fast access to TurboTax across multiple devices without the risk of downtime.

Intuit implemented Red Hat Storage Server with HP ProLiant DL170e G6 servers to manage 40-50 terabytes of unstructured data, which they replicate between two data centers. And because they were able to deploy a customized solution, their associated costs are far lower than most proprietary storage systems.*

“Although going down a new path sometimes means taking risks, the rewards can be huge if you can deliver breakthroughs in performance and scalability while reducing costs,” said Jeff Ludwig, Director of Product Development for TurboTax. “Red Hat enabled us to do that."

Because of Intuit’s success, they were selected by a panel of experts as the 2013 Red Hat Innovation Award Winner for Best Storage Implementation.
