October 26 Gluster for Geeks: Building New File Systems with GlusterFS Translators
GlusterFS is a stackable file system with a layered approach that allows developers to easily build new extensions and add new layers to the base file system. Join Red Hat engineers Jeff Darcy and Anand Avati as they walk through the GlusterFS architecture and demonstrate how to get started building new translators. GlusterFS translator contributions in the past have included such things as data encryption, IMAP, FTP, a trash can, and much more. In fact, much of what is considered core functionality of GlusterFS is implemented via translators.

August 30 What’s New in GlusterFS 3.3
The GlusterFS 3.3 beta 2 release includes compatibility for Apache Hadoop. This latest enhancement to GlusterFS uses the standard file system APIs available in Hadoop to provide a new storage option for Hadoop deployments. With this new feature, GlusterFS is the first open source, POSIX-compliant file and object storage solution that works with Hadoop. Compatible with existing MapReduce-based applications and with the ability to co-exist with HDFS, this new functionality opens up data within Hadoop deployments to any file- or object-based application.
