According to a voluntary online survey conducted by the OpenStack User Committee, many of OpenStack’s founding projects, including Nova and Glance continue to be popular. However, other projects, such as Heat, Swift, and Trove, are also gaining in adoption.

There were some areas of the survey that really stood out, however. Such as the small matter of storage, one of our favorite topics! For example, there’s the fact that Ceph continues to be the most popular storage driver, gaining 7 percent since the last survey.

Storage sizes continue creeping up across the board. For object storage, one standout data point shows respondents managing 1PB or more grew 3% compared to last year. With unstructured data on the rise, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this number increase a great deal more, next year.

When it comes to number of objects managed there were increases across the board except for those managing between 10,000 and 99,999 objects which saw an 8% drop over last year. Do you have a theory to explain the drop? Share it in the comments!
